The Prelude Exhibition of The First Shanghai Graphic Design Biennale – TopoPoster: International Poster Design Exhibition, after six months (June – December, 2025) of planning and preparation, was successfully held from December 13 to December 22, 2025. As one of the larger-scale exhibitions in recent years featuring an international selection of works in China, it showcased over 300 representative poster designs from 153 influential contemporary designers and studios active in the forefront of the field across 28 countries.

Concepts

This poster was created for the exhibition presenting the outcomes of the international research project “Concepts”, which explores the interpretation and reinterpretation of words across cultures and languages. A fragment of a living cell is used as a metaphor for language – dynamic, evolving, and constantly reshaped by context. Just as cells are the basis of life, words form the building blocks of thought and culture. The vivid colors and bold forms emphasize the fluid, multilayered nature of language and invite reflection on how meanings shift and transform in a global context.
