The Prelude Exhibition of The First Shanghai Graphic Design Biennale – TopoPoster: International Poster Design Exhibition, after six months (June – December, 2025) of planning and preparation, was successfully held from December 13 to December 22, 2025. As one of the larger-scale exhibitions in recent years featuring an international selection of works in China, it showcased over 300 representative poster designs from 153 influential contemporary designers and studios active in the forefront of the field across 28 countries.

Hippocampus Group Exhibition

The poster design and branding for the upcoming group exhibition “Hippocampus” was created for Elders Collectief and will take place at the former magazine site of Van Marcke in Kortrijk, West-Flanders, Belgium. The exhibition presents ten works by various artists and marks Elders’ most ambitious project to date. The design was developed by Corbin Mahieu Studio, Verhelst Victor, and intern Matsi.

The team created a system that enables Elders to carry forward their graphical identity while allowing greater freedom to experiment. Practical details are consistently placed within a bold color stroke beneath the graphics, providing space to explore typography in new ways for each project.

For this exhibition, the designers reinterpreted Van Marcke’s seahorse logo as a distinctive three-dimensional typeface. Alongside these dreamy, almost fantastical letters, they examined the relationship between space and perception by positioning objects and artworks within a strict framework. The outcome also serves as an ode to illustrator Ernst Haeckel, known for his 19th-century depictions of marine life. This approach resonates with both Elders’ practice and the exhibition’s theme: presenting art in unusual places and spaces, and encouraging dialogue between the artworks and their surroundings rather than confining them to the neutrality of a white cube.
